“I’m not that unproblematic,” he said. “I don’t volunteer at animal shelters, and I didn’t join Doctors Without Borders straight out of medical school.” There wasn’t anything he could tell her that would portray him accurately. Yeah, I’m some sort of freak from a subspecies of humanity that’s spying on SHIELD to figure out how much of a threat you are. “Trust me, I’m just… I’m not.”
Oh, fuck. If everything else failed, she could always specialise in hitting the nerve. This was actually one of those rare moments a Darth Vader impression wouldn’t ruin. “Good. Neither am I,” Skye stated with ease, “But, that’s a story for another night. Or day. At an animal shelter, helping old ladies across the street, cutting lines in front of Republicans. All the shit that helps you make up for years of shit you’ve committed and the hour-long playlists you tortured people with. We’ll get to that some other time.”
She pushed herself away from the table she was previously leaning against, looking in the direction of the speakers just as a familiar and, most importantly, mellow tune started playing. The relief in the room was palpable. “And there’s your Ed Sheeran song. Good choice, Med School. Now, do you want to go get water and help me find a shorter nickname for you?”
