She certainly wasn’t going to make her spill whatever was on her mind. She could do it, when it was needed she knew how to get her to talk but she figured out it wouldn’t help since she seemed to seek some tranquillity here and well she had paperwork to focus on in the mean time. But when finally she let it out, she raised her eyes to the young girl.“You’re not the only one feeling that way.”she answered, worrying was something she was accustomed to for as long as she could recall after she joined S.H.I.E.L.D. years before.
Skye sighed, reclining in her chair. If anything, knowing that the strongest person she’d ever met was going through the same things without seemingly losing it was comforting beyond belief, as was the fact May’d chosen to share it with her. “How do you deal with it?” she simply asked, voice a faint murmur.
With time she learned to read her more easily, not saying the girl was an open book for her since she wasn’t entirely but she could see something was upsetting her even if she kept pretending the contrary.“I never said you weren’t capable of being quiet but I know you and if you want to talk about it, I’m here if you need to let it out.”she simply commented, raising her stare from the file to her, adopting a soft tone.
Skye nodded along to May’s words to let the woman know her sentiments were understood and appreciated, but kept silent, eyes fixed on the paperwork she was handling. “I’m just scared for you,” she finally breathed out, voice uncomfortably loud for the atmosphere in the office. “All of you. More than myself. I know it’s irrational and you could handle yourself with your eyes closed, but I can’t turn it off. During the day it’s fine, when I try to sleep it’s not.”
Answering the girl’s comment on her ability to stand up for ever with
one of her usual and so familiar glare -even if the corner of her lips
twitched up for a second- she watched her make herself at home in her office. She was used to those situations, where she would just burst in and start rambling probably knowing she wasn’t going to get an answer from her but it always seemed to be fine with her and now seemed to be one of those times, she could tell by her physical expressions. “Do I really need to answer that ?”she asked before she put aside the file she was reading to focus about her.“What can I ddo to help you.”It was not even a question, she was ready to do whatever she needed from her, even if it was just to stand here and listen to her for hours.
“This is as far as I planned, actually. I couldn’t sleep and I hadn’t seen you in a while, so it somehow added up in my head,” Skye shrugged, sinking further into the chair to the point of not being able to see May over her paperwork. If anything, distracting her would make the night long for both of them. “Do your thing. I’ll just quietly exist over here. Shocking, I know, but contrary to popular opinion, I can shut up for more than a minute.”
She thought her days at Administration were behind her but since she came back here, paperwork somehow came back in her daily schedule but at least she had an excuse to look around so she wasn’t complaining much. Seating at her desk, she was reading some file when she heard someone approchaing. “Anything you want to say or you’re going to stand here all day ?”
Skye faltered in her step when May spoke up. In a snap sleepless decision, she’d decided to find one of her teammates for company and, considering she hadn’t seen her in a while, the choice came easily. Their hangouts on the plane had mostly consisted of sitting in comfortable silence, but it’s what she needed at that moment. “That was the plan, yeah, but now I’m seriously reconsidering it. I won’t last an hour standing up,” she remarked, pulling out a chair to claim her place next to the woman. “Am I interrupting? I mean, I am, but how important is this compared to listening to me ramble for a very long time?”
